Summary

PolyU AAE x 60Pins – ASTRON Space Lab
ASTRON: SPACE LAB is a programme offering students a unique and immersive experience in space science and technology, fostering their scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. It provides a platform for students to apply their knowledge in a real-world context and inspires them to pursue careers in STEM fields, particularly in space exploration and research.

The competition requires students to design and programme an experiment to be run on computers aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The programme involves hands-on workshops for students to enhance their knowledge of Python programming. Students will also be guided to polish their skills in report writing and data analysis.  Shortlisted teams will be offered chances to have their scientific experiments run on the ISS. The teams will have the opportunity to analyse and report on the results of their space experiment.

Highlight of the workshops

  • Experiment Design: Students learn how to design experiments that can be conducted in the unique environment of microgravity. They understand the challenges and constraints of conducting experiments in space and develop innovative solutions.
  • Technical Skills: Students acquire technical skills related to space research, such as programming (e.g. python) and other coding skills, data analysis, hardware development, and communication systems. They gain hands-on experience with the tools and technologies used in space missions.
